A COMMUNITY OF ART & CULTURE
The beauty of the natural environment in the Carefree/Cave Creek area inspires artists, musicians and writers. The two towns are committed to promoting the arts with festivals, public art installations and art galleries. Many artists live in Carefree and Cave Creek, and in the past several years they have been joined by a significant number of fine art galleries, which are sprinkled along Easy Street and Ho Hum Road in Carefree and spread out along Cave Creek Road in Cave Creek. The galleries rival, and some say surpass, the galleries in Scottsdale and Sedona, for the quality and diversity of the art shown, and for the artists' regional and national reputations.
ART GALLERIES & FESTIVALS
Some of our galleries represent a number of different artists and a variety of mediums, including the Gallery Art Max, Amano Folk Art, Level 9 Gallery, Camarena Art Gallery, Galeria Bellas Artes, and Wild Holly Galleries. There are also several artist-owned galleries in Cave Creek/Carefree, such as the Steven DeWitt Perrin Gallery, Linda Budge Studio, JD Challenger and the D. Lyon Gallery, where you can meet the artists and discuss with them their different styles and mediums.
In addition, many artists' studios are open by appointment year round. Over 40 of these studios are open to the public every November for the nationally recognized Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour, which is sponsored by the Sonoran Arts League. Other large juried art festivals are held throughout the year, such as Carefree's Fine Art and Wine Festival and the Sonoran Festival of Fine Art, showcasing painters, jewelers, sculptors, and artists working in pencil, pen and ink, ceramics, glass, wood, metal, leather and gourds. All types of art from local artists as well as many well-known artists from other areas of the country are featured at our festivals.
The Cave Creek Film and Arts Festival became an overnight success, awarding more than $30,000 in prizes for short story, poetry, film, dance, music, photography and visual arts entries. In February and March, Arizona Musicfest regales the Carefree, Cave Creek and North Scottsdale area with concerts by world-renowned classical, jazz and Broadway musicians. People travel from all over to attend our arts festivals, often planning their visits around these events.
The famous Heard Museum has on display magnificent Native American art at its north annex, located just south of Carefree. The Cave Creek Museum features various local artists during its winter season each year. This museum is filled with historic remnants which are also worth a visit. In addition to the galleries, art studios and museums, you'll enjoy visiting our many unique shops and boutiques, all of which are surrounded by the natural wonders that will continue to inspire our community's art and culture. | ||
