Janne's Carefree Art Gallery, Arizona

Imported (as many fine works of art) from Norway, Janne Valand Schultz sprouted roots in Aspen Colorado some years ago and brought with her the passion for art she's possessed all her life. Janne's calling to the art world led her to take a course under the supervision of artist, Hedy Moran. Through her studies she soon came to the understanding that she, herself, was not an artist. This, of course, did not mean that her lack of patience to create art could keep her from seeing the beauty in another's work and sharing it with all whom she encoutered.

Janne's deep appreciation for the fruits of creative expression is what inspired her to open her first gallery in Aspen which primarily featured 19th century Americana styles. One of the first artists to be showcased in her new gallery on Easy Street was Karl Stegmann, an artist residing in Montrose Colorado, who is known for capturing the essence of western landscapes on canvas. Though Janne is partial to subtle, nature-inspired styles of art, she also finds excitement in unique objects and hand-made jewelry items that sometimes go over-looked in the art world. Through Karl and the other acquaintances she had in Aspen, Norway and even New York, many of them being street artists, she was able to build quite an eclectic collection of art and eventually transitioned into an art and antique store. Now, having spent the last eight years in, Arizona, Janne recently made the emotional but firm decision to return to the intimacy of a small gallery.

Located in Carefree, Arizona, close to North Scottsdale Arizona her new space is best described as a cozy treasure cove where she has begun weaving together her personal interests and styles into an enchanting collection of paintings, sculptures and other unique findings. Though the official Grand Opening ceremony for the new gallery will not take place until November 2007, Janne is already featuring the works of a handful of gifted painters, sculpters and jewelry designers. Adorning the walls of Janne's gallery are paintings by Barbara Kennedy, Felicitas, Tania Dibbs and Karl Stegmann, each speaking to visitors in their own distinct languages. Also featured are several illusive glass forms created by Suzanne Wallace Mears. And, of course, as visiting eyes peruse the premises, they can't help noticing smaller accents in the form of hand-constructed jewelry from Norway and a lovely collection of vintage heart-shaped Yves St. Laurent mirror compacts bejeweled in an array of colors.

Amongst all the fanciful works displayed throughout the gallery, Janne can be found exhibiting a warm, inviting smile along with an alluring presence bathed in style and grace. She instantly commands admiration, with the stature of a model, as her aqua blue eyes lead visitors into casual converstaion. Whether she's speaking about her featured artists or telling you a story about her personal collection of 350 antique candle holders that once danced with a mirrored reflection in her New York City apartment, Janne is an essential part of the gallery experience.
