Detailed Information

In 1988, the food bank was founded because there was a large Hispanic population that was in need.  Today the majority of the population that we are serving is non-Hispanic.  In the beginning we would see, on average, 45 families a month.  Today we see over 500 families per month.

Seniors in need are the fastest growing demographic that we serve.  They struggle to make ends meet on fixed incomes.  The food they receive from the Foothills Food Bank helps them to be able to pay other expenses.

We are also seeing more people that are either living in their car or out in the desert.  We are trying to help them with additional resources.  We have volunteers that will meet with a client one-on-one to aid them in finding resources that will get them out of those situations and into a more comfortable living environment, particularly in the warm summer months.

Due to current economic conditions, the number of Food Bank clients continues to increase by 10% per year, and our area is increasing.  We now cover North to Black Canyon City, South to Pinnacle Peak, East to Rio Verde and West to I-17.  We expect that these needs will continue.
